Violet man killed by gunshot wound before car fire

St. Bernard Parish, La. – A man whose body turned up in his burned out car in Violet October 30th had been shot in the head before the fire started, according to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann.

Investigators are still waiting on a full autopsy profile, but the Sheriff says the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head as Christopher Campbell sat in the driver's seat of his special edition 2004 Mustang.

Because of the victim's passion for car racing, investigators are working leads related to the pastime. Campbell's burned out car was discovered on the shoulder of LA 46 Extension, an area known for street racing.

Sheriff Pohlman says a number of people have been questioned in the case but no arrests have been made.

Investigators are looking for tips in the case, distributing special fliers offering a $2,500 reward through Crimestoppers for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

Tips can be called in to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office at 504-271-2501.
