Washington, D.C. - People in Louisiana have one of the lowest state and local tax burdens across the nation.
According to the Tax Foundation, Louisiana ranks fourth on its list of states that have state and local government's demanding the least amount of tax money.
In 2010, total income tax collections in Louisiana came to just over $500 per person. The national rate was $767 per person.
People in Alaska have the lowest tax burden. Residents of South Dakota come in second. People in Tennessee rank third.
The highest tax burden states are New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California.
