Man charged after hitting, killing Metairie pedestrian

FOX 8 News received this press release from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Friday evening; exact addresses for the subjects have been redacted:

This morning, around 10:30 am, Traffic Investigator Karl Burge was dispatched to an accident involving a pedestrian in the parking lot of 1111 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie. Upon arrival, Officer Burge learned the pedestrian, identified as Jean Meyers, W/F, 77, of Hesper Avenue of Metairie was transported to University Hospital by EMS and shortly thereafter, was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation conducted by Officer Burge revealed the victim was walking in the crosswalk of the parking lot when a 2008 Ford Explorer, being driven by Christopher Peneguy, W/M, 26, of Orleans Avenue, of New Orleans struck her. Peneguy told Fatality Supervisor Shawn Michel that he did not see Mrs. Meyers as she was walking in the crosswalk.

Peneguy was charged with Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
