New Orleans, La. -

Police arrested Gary Landrieu, the cousin of Mayor Mitch Landrieu and recent candidate for Congress and the New Orleans City Council, on an aggravated battery charge Monday.

FOX 8 News received this statement from NOPD Monday afternoon:

This morning, shortly after 9:00 A.M., Gary Landrieu, 54, was arrested at the Seventh District Police Station (10101 Dwyer Road) after voluntarily surrendering to police for a warrant of Aggravated Battery.

On Friday night, November 9, 2012, Landrieu was in his vehicle when he began arguing with the victim as she was standing outside.  Landrieu then grabbed the victim by her jaw and when the victim was able to break free, Landrieu grabbed the victim by her pony tail and began to drive off dragging the victim several feet.  Officers obtained an arrest warrant on Landrieu for Aggravated Battery.   The victim refused medical aid at the time of the incident.

Landrieu remained at Orleans Parish jail at last report.
