New Orleans, La. - The Orleans District Attorney's Office have dropped charges against two people arrested in a crackdown on alleged corruption in the City's Taxicab Bureau.
In April of 2011, New Orleans police arrested Donald Juneau, the vice-president of United Cab Company, and Ronnie Blake, a Taxicab Bureau inspector. Juneau was accused of bypassing the city's inspection sticker system for cabs.
Surveillance video obtained by FOX 8 showed what appeared to be Juneau scraping off old stickers on United Cabs and replacing them with new stickers, without the cabs being inspected. The video shows it happened at United Cab.
Investigators alleged Ronnie Blake was working with Juneau. Blake was booked with malfeasance in office and filing false public records.
Two months later, the three Taxicab Bureau investigators who uncovered the alleged corruption were suspended for 120 days with the city claiming payroll irregularities and supervisory issues. None of the three investigators works for the City of New Orleans anymore.
The District Attorney's Office dropped the charges Friday, but says there is still an ongoing investigation and charges could be brought at a later date.
