Sixth person sentenced in meth ring case

Updated:

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A Carriere man has been sentenced on federal conspiracy charges for his role in methamphetamine distribution ring that operated in Hancock County and elsewhere.

The Sea Coast Echo reports that Billy Paul Lee was sentenced in federal court in Gulfport this past week.

That brings to six the number of defendants to be sentenced. Three others are expected to be sentenced over the next few months. All nine pleaded guilty in August.

U.S. District Judge Walter Gex sentenced Lee to 72 months in prison. Upon release, Lee must complete four years of probation and pay a $5,000 fine.

Prosecutors say Lee was part of a network that distributed meth throughout South Mississippi over a two-year period.
