Doctors update conditions of Black Elk fire victims

Baton Rouge, La. -

One of the four men burned during an explosion Friday aboard an oil platform in the Gulf is improving. 50-year-old Wilberto Ilagan has been upgraded to good condition at Baton Rouge General Hospital.

One other man remains in serious condition while two more are in critical condition in the burn unit.

Ilagan asked doctors to read a statement for him Monday, in which Ilagan asked his countrymen to pray for him and all the other workers affected by the accident.

The four being treated at Baton Rouge General are from the Philippines.

Monday, the Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Embassy expressed gratitude to the staff at Baton Rouge General Hospital. The ambassador is also helping the workers' families, all of whom still live in the Philippines, to stay informed about what's going on with their loved ones.

One other man died during the explosion Friday and another remains missing. Several other workers were treated at area hospitals.
