New Orleans, La. -

A watchdog for the City of New Orleans is at odds with the city's civil service over the way employees in his office get paid.

Civil service has told Inspector General Ed Quatrevaux that employees in his office and the police monitor's office need to be paid when they work extra hours.

Quatrevaux had been giving employees time off for extra hours worked.  Now he says he has suspended that policy until the matter is settled.

The inspector general tells FOX 8 News he hopes to settle this matter out of court by the end of this year.
