West Jefferson group calls for parish to contest tolls vote

A group calling itself the Voters League of Unincorporated West Jefferson LLC wants the parish to contest the results of the toll renewal election.

In an e-mail to Parish President John Young, council members and state legislators chairman Wade Perrin calls it obscene that a proposal voted on by 310,000 people passed by what he calls the "highly questionable margin" of 16 votes.

Perrin says many residents are concerned about the appearance of impropriety. He calls on the leaders to contest the results saying, "it is imperative the electorate has complete confidence in any election, especially one that imposes a nearly one-half billion dollar tax primarily upon the westbank population of the greater new Orleans region over the next 20 years."
