Mississippi man arrested for allegedly stealing pens from Sheriff's Office

Slidell, La. - St. Tammany Parish deputies arrested a Picayune man accused of stealing pens from the Sheriff's Office Slidell administrative complex.

33-year-old Edward Alan Lucas of Picayune is booked with one count of misdemeanor theft.

Deputies say Lucas went to the Slidell building Monday, November 19th to get a copy of a police report. They say while the clerks pulled the file, workers noticed he was acting suspicious.

A news release from Sheriff Jack Strain's office states, "after Lucas left the building, the clerks noticed three pens, available to people doing business at the windows and attached to the counter with small metal chains, were missing. A review of the complex's surveillance video revealed Lucas detaching the pens from the chains and putting them into his pocket."

Detectives called Lucas and him return to the complex on Tuesday. They say when questioned about the incident he admitted to taking them.

Captain George Bonnett said normally such a matter would have been handled with a summons, but because Lucas is from out of state, the proper procedure is to arrest him.

No bond has yet been set for Lucas.
