Memphis, Tenn. - Surgeries like shortening of toes, foot injections and even completely cutting off pinky toes are growing more popular among some women who love to wear high heels.
Susan Deming had surgery to shorten her second toe by about a centimeter. "Unless you've been there, and you can't find shoes, and you're in pain, don't judge," she said. Now she says she can't wait to go shopping for "nice, black leather stilettos."
According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, 87 percent of women have had foot problems from wearing uncomfortable or ill-fitting shoes such as high heels.
Dr. Nathan Lucas is a 15-year veteran of foot procedures and says he's seen a steady growth in the number of women opting for the surgery.
Lucas said, "they come in and they'll be like, 'Dr. Lucas, I want to wear high heels shoes, or let's say fashionable shoes, but I can't.'"
Some of the procedures to help women include removing bunions or injecting collagen into the balls of the foot to add some extra cushioning.
