NOPD nabs three carjacking suspects after chase

FOX 8 News received this press release from NOPD Wednesday afternoon:

New Orleans Police arrested 3 suspected carjackers early this morning after they held a victim at gunpoint outside a New Orleans East lounge and made off with his vehicle.

Detectives say 18-year-old Tyrone Johnson, 27-year-old Raymond Lee and 22-year-old Keith Marrow approached the victim with a firearm outside a bar in the 6600-block of Morrison Road at about 11 last night. About an hour later, ON-Star was able to track the car's location in Algiers. Fourth District units quickly caught up with the vehicle, and tried to pull the driver over. He refused, and led officers on a brief chase, which ended when the stolen car's driver hit a tree as well as a parked vehicle near the intersection of Woodland Highway and Brunswick Court.

At that time, the 3 suspects jumped out of the car and started running. One of the men was quickly apprehended by Fourth District officers. Meantime, members of the Special Operations Division (SOD) and the NOPD's Gang Unit quickly set up a perimeter around the area and called for K-9 assistance.

Subsequently, a second suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the third suspect eventually surrendered to police. Both had been hiding within the perimeter.

After a follow-up investigation by Seventh District detectives, all three men were booked with Relative to Carjacking, Relative to Use of a Firearm in a Robbery and Relative to Possession of Stolen Things.

Keith Marrow has been previously arrested for Domestic Abuse Battery, Disturbing the Peace and Criminal Trespass. He currently has an outstanding Municipal Attachment and he was on probation for Bail Jumping in Georgia until 2014.

Tyrone Johnson has been previously arrested for Armed Robbery which was later refused by the DA's Office.

"Within 2 hours of this carjacking, Fourth District officers, members of our Gang Unit and even K-9 officers had blocked off streets, and guaranteed the arrests of the two remaining carjackers", said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.

"This is just the latest collaborative effort by members of this department that shows everyone was ready to go and up to the task to provide safety for the people of New Orleans."
