New Orleans, La. – You may have a house full of guests, but Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman invited everyone over for dinner.

The free event at the Morial Convention center was expected to draw about 2,500 people for turkey and all the trimmings.

This is the 38th year the Orleans Sheriff has offered up the Thanksgiving day meal and entertainment.

Sheriff Gusman says it has become a tradition people expect and look forward to, "Even after Katrina we didn't stop, so I think there's no way I could stop it. It's a tradition. It's part of New Orleans."

Volunteers say it is a time to give back and be with family and friends.

Musical guests included Irvin Mayfield, Irma Thomas and Kermit Ruffins.
