New Orleans, La. - Deputies are searching for a suspect who they say removed his electronic monitoring bracelet.
The Orleans Sheriff's Office said, around 7:30 Tuesday night, deputies received an alert that 19-year-old Jamal Horton took off the bracelet.
Deputies say they immediately began looking for Horton and also notified the New Orleans Police Department.
A judge placed Horton into the monitoring program on October 5 after he was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
"Once assigned to the Electronic Monitoring Program, an individual agrees to abide by the rules of the program and restrictions placed by the judge. In this case, Jamal Horton chose to violate the rules of this program and remove his bracelet. The Sheriff's Office is actively searching for this individual, according to our program procedures and policies. We will work with the judge in this case to ensure that Horton is off of the street pending the resolution of charges against him," said Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman.
Once Horton is located, deputies say he will be charged with criminal damage to property valued at $500 and tampering with an electronic monitoring device.
