New Orleans, La. -
A federal law implemented in 2005 may require Louisianians to bring their passports next time they fly.
The Real I.D. Act requires states to add dozens of additional security features onto a license and mandates a more detailed process of getting an I.D.
Four years ago, Louisiana and many other states refused the law and prohibited the Office of Motor Vehicles from its implementation. Since then, Homeland Security has granted two extensions to when the law takes effect. The most recent extension expires in January.
It could be up to TSA officials if they will accept identification that's not in federal compliance. State Office of Motor Vehicles will have all but two of the 39 federal security features by October.
