New York state won't hire Blakely for Sandy recovery

New Orleans, La. -

Ed Blakely, Ray Nagin's controversial Katrina rebuilding czar, will not help in Sandy recovery efforts in New York.

Matt Wing, a spokesman for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, says that Blakely will have no role on the Respond Commission or with any other aspect of storm cleanup.

Blakely, who now works in Australia, told Australian radio station 2SER last week that Governor Cuomo had appointed him to the commission to study how to prepare for future storms.  But Wing told FOX 8 he didn't know whether Blakely had ever been considered for a role.

Blakely has been widely criticized as never grasping New Orleans' culture and often over-stating his role in the city's recovery.
