NOPD officer arrested

New Orleans Police have arrested one of their own.

8th District Police Officer April Moses was booked just after 8pm Thursday with theft and malfeasance in office.

A police spokesperson says the arrest happened after an investigation revealed that Moses stole a gift card this past Sunday from an armed robbery victim's purse that was turned in to the 8th District Station. Moses was working the front desk at the time.

Police say Moses left her assignment at the station and went to Target in Metairie and used the card to buy things totaling 85 dollars. The owner of the purse called the district station after learning the stolen gift card had been used.  Detectives obtained the date and time the card was used, and recognized that Moses had made the purchases.

This isn't the first time the 31 year old officer has been in trouble.

In 2011, Moses was suspended from the NOPD for 70 days for alleging that her boyfriend beat her up but then retracting the statement when the District Attorney's office tried to press charges.

She had also been reassigned recently, working desk duty, after being involved in a traffic accident while off-duty, and then fighting with the other driver involved.

Moses has been placed on emergency suspension.
