The Archdiocese of New Orleans reports that Msgr. Crosby Kern has died.
FOX 8 News received this short statement from the Archdiocese Friday afternoon:
Msgr. Crosby Kern died this morning at the age of 73 after a short battle with cancer. A native of New Orleans, Msgr. Kern attended both Incarnate Word and St. Dominic Catholic elementary schools and Jesuit High School. He attended Maryknoll College in Illinois before graduating from both St. Joseph Seminary College and Notre Dame Seminary. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1965 at St. Louis Cathedral by Archbishop Philip Hannan.
Since 2003, Msgr. Kern has served as rector of the historic St. Louis Cathedral where he oversaw management at the Old Ursuline Convent in the French Quarter. Prior to his service at the Cathedral, Msgr. Kern served for 25 years as the pastor of St. Angela Merici in Metairie and for 4 years as the pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary in Hahnville, La. In addition to his service as a pastor and associate at parishes throughout the New Orleans area, he also served for a time as the archdiocesan vocation director, as coordinator of the permanent diaconate and on several archdiocesan governing bodies including the priests council. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Thomas Varisco.
