The news out of Kansas City Saturday morning was beyond sad and shocking.
It is tragic at it's very core.
Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend to death, and then took his own life in front of Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli.
Belcher was 25. His girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, was 22. The couple had a three month old daughter who will never know her parents.
Why? Belcher took the reason to the grave with him. Reports are the couple had an 'argument'. But then, what reason could there have been? What justification could a man have for taking the life of the mother of his child, and then his own?
So many people scarred. So many lives irreparably changed in a matter of hours. Moments.
My prayers go out to so many in this awful story. To the baby. To the victim's parents and family. To Belcher's family who, no doubt, are living with guilt not of their causing. To the Chiefs football family.
Tortured soul that Belcher must have been, and forgive me for feeling this, he committed one of the greatest acts of selfishness I can imagine. Robbing so many of so much. Leaving countless family members and friends to wonder what, if anything, they could have done to prevent this act.
