Man escapes police custody while handcuffed to floor

Harvey, La. - Jefferson Parish deputies are combing an area along Manhattan Boulevard for a man who escaped from custody at the detectives bureau.

A spokesman with the JPSO says 24 year-old Harry J. Mitchell was in custody for an attempted armed robbery when he got away sometime before 8:30 Tuesday morning.

Investigators had taken Mitchell in for questioning about a robbery at 2349 Alex Kornman in Harvey around 1am.

Police say he was handcuffed in an interview room when he disappeared. Investigators found one of the cuffs still attached to the floor plate.

Mitchell is described as a black male, 5'10, 150 pounds, brown eyes, black hair ear length with twists and dreads, thin mustache, a goatee. He has tattoos of "504" on left forearm, the word "Snuggs" on his left forearm, and "Deshia" is written on right forearm along with a fleur-de-lis.

He was wearing a white T-shirt blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
