Stolen car involved in fatal accident in Terrebonne Parish

Houma, La.- Louisiana State Police arrest a man they say killed a woman in a head-on collision while driving a stolen car.

The accident happened Tuesday night around 11:30 on Louisiana highway 659 in Terrebonne Parish.

Investigators say 32-year-old Gregory Poindexter tried to pass in a no passing zone and slammed into a car driven by 70 year old Lindy Bascle.

Bascle was killed. Poindexter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

As it turned out, the car he was driving had just been reported stolen from outside a lounge in Houma.

Houma Police investigating the theft say the victim told them she received a call that Poindexter was at Terrebonne General Medical Center after being involved in an accident in her car..

Troopers booked Poindexter with vehicular homicide, 2 counts of vehicular negligent injuring, passing in a no passing zone, no seat belt and no driver's license. Houma Police booked Poindexter with theft of a motor vehicle.
