College consultants will conduct a session for high school counselors on writing strong recommendation letters.

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) December 06, 2012

Montgomery Educational Consulting is pleased to announce its presentation at the annual conference for the Colorado Council on High School and College Relations (CCHS/CR). The conference, which is being held on December 6 and 7 in Colorado Springs, brings together high school counselors and college admissions professionals from around the state.

On December 7, Montgomery Educational Consulting's Mark Montgomery, Cara Ray, and Sara Zessar will conduct a session entitled "Writing Recommendation Letters: What Counselors Need to Know". Sara Purviance, Assistant Director of Admission at Colorado College, and Craig Wittgrove, Post Grad Coordinator at Cherry Creek High School, will assist with the presentation.

At selective and highly selective colleges, and even at some state schools, strong recommendation letters are an important part of a student's application. College admissions officers use letters to get a better sense of a student's personality and the types of contributions that student might make to the campus community.

Asked why he chose to offer a session on this topic, Mark Montgomery, president of Montgomery Educational Consulting, said, "Letter-writing is very time-consuming, and it can be difficult for counselors to write about students they don't know well. We hope to provide counselors with valuable, practical advice that can make this task easier."

In addition to writing compelling letters themselves, it is important that counselors help teachers write effective letters. "It’s difficult to get a complete picture of students when their teacher and counselor letters say the same things. Both types of letters are important, but they have different purposes," explained Sara Purviance of Colorado College. The CCHS/CR conference presentation will address this issue as well.

A list of tips for both counselors and teachers can be found on Montgomery Educational Consulting's website.
