New Orleans, La. - The NOPD is investigating an early morning shooting along busy Claiborne Avenue.
Police say say a sheriff's deputy was at the intersection of Esplanade and Claiborne when he saw two men fighting.
He heard gunshots and saw one of the men with a weapon. When the deputy asked the man to stop, he fled the scene.
The deputy apprehended him after brief chase and struggle.
Police recovered a gun from the scene and believe robbery was the motive.
There's no word on the condition of the victim.
