BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A former Chalmette resident serving a 35-year prison term in Mississippi for raping a college student there in 2009 has been indicted in the July 5, 2009, rape of a college student in Baton Rouge.

Officials said James Harold Crockett Jr., 41, used a stun gun and handcuffs during both sexual assaults.

An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Crockett Wednesday with aggravated rape.

Even though Crockett is serving time in another state, District Attorney Hillar Moore told The Advocate the victim in the Baton Rouge rape case deserves justice.

"It was imperative that we go forward here and bring him to justice," Moore said.

In the Baton Rouge incident, Crockett knocked on a 22-year-old woman's apartment door at about 12:30 a.m. July 5, 2009, according to an arrest warrant issued at the time. He asked to see the victim's roommate, referring to the roommate by her first name, and then asked if he could use the bathroom.

The victim told police she allowed him inside her apartment because Crockett "claimed to be a friend of (her) roommate," the warrant states. Once inside the apartment, the warrant says Crockett grabbed the victim, and while she was screaming, began shooting her with a stun gun in her shoulder, wrist, leg and cheek.

Crockett then handcuffed the victim's wrists in front of her body and handcuffed her wrists to her ankles, according to the warrant. The victim told police once she was handcuffed, Crockett raped her in her bedroom.

Crockett was arrested in the rape and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Aug. 8 after he was transported from a prison in Hattiesburg, Miss. He has since been returned to Mississippi.

Crockett pleaded guilty in June 2010 in the July 6, 2009, rape in Hattiesburg of a 21-year-old college student and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

The victim in that case said she was walking into her apartment when Crockett forced her inside, hit her, shocked her repeatedly, then handcuffed and raped her, according to police.
