Covington, La. - A massive overnight fire destroys a north shore home killing two dogs that were inside.
The fire broke out just after 2am in the Crestwood Estates subdivision in Mandeville just south of Covington.
Homeowner Janet Burton tells us she was at work as a nurse on the graveyard shift when the fire broke out and no one was at home but her pets.
Burton says a neighbor outside watching the meteor shower spotted the flames and called for help.
It took 17 firefighters and five fire trucks to get the fire under control.
The first firefighter on the scene tried to get into the house to rescue the dogs, but the flames were too intense.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
