Five of the six Jefferson Parish Housing Authority commissioners removed from office last week are suing Parish President John Young and the Parish Council in federal court.
They claim they were defamed when Young wrongfully removed them from the board without due process.
Back in August, the Department of Housing and Urban Development's inspector general released a scathing audit, accusing the agency of spending more than $600,000 without adequately explaining the expenditures.
The board's director, Barry Bordelon, resigned but was later re-hired as a maintenance supervisor. That prompted Young to demand Bordelon be fired again. After the board refused, Young removed six members: Patrick Pierson, Hunley Dufour, Bill Boada, Terrell Harris, Mary Snowden and Simone Scanio.
Pierson, Dufour, Boada, Snowden and Scanio are asking for their jobs back and unspecified damages.
