New Orleans, La. -
FOX 8 News received this press release from the Orleans Parish School Board Monday afternoon:
Interim School Superintendent Stan Smith and members of the Orleans Parish School Board today extended their sympathy to the family of the late Elliot "Doc" Willard who died on Friday.
"We are saddened by the passing of `Doc' Willard who served for many years on the Orleans Parish School Board and, before that, as principal at St. Augustine High School and Booker T. Washington High School," said Smith. "`Doc' Willard leaves a legacy as an outstanding educator, a community leader and a supporter of public education. We believe that he will be long-remembered for his many achievements."
Mr. Willard was the father of former New Orleans Councilperson and State Senator Cynthia Willard and Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Ben Willard.
Willard died of pancreatic cancer, according to the OPSB. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
