Teacher accused of sexting student, having affair with principal

EUNICE, La. (AP) - Police have arrested a former Eunice High teacher after she allegedly texted sexual photos to a student while she was employed at the school.

Police Deputy Chief Varden Guillory Sr. tells The Advocate Jacqueline Fruge turned herself in to police Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued against her for prohibited sexual contact between an educator and student.

Guillory says police launched an investigation after the department's chief of detectives was shown the texts by "someone who was friends with the student."

"It was never reported to us," Guillory said.

During the investigation, detectives learned that students were aware of the texts and reported it to the school's principal, Guillory said.

"Several student and faculty members interviewed said they were aware of an affair going on between her and her principal," Guillory said. "That may be why he was reluctant to report it to police.

"Some students who had knowledge of this had reported it to him weeks before we knew about it," Guillory said.

The state Attorney General's Office will be asked to investigate the matter since faculty and administrators at the school allegedly had prior knowledge of the text messages and failed to report it to police, Guillory said.

Guillory said that failure to report the incident is a violation of state law, which requires sexual conduct between an educator and student be reported to law enforcement.

It was unclear whether Fruge has an attorney.
