NO: With Super Bowl, pay taxes by mail or online

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is urging people to pay property taxes online or by mail this year, rather than lining up to pay at City Hall during a month including the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras parades.

A city news release notes that both events are likely to tie up traffic and parking. City Hall is catty corner to the Superdome.

The city charges a 2.49 percent processing fee for credit or debit card payments. There's no charge if you authorize direct transfer from your checking account.

The city began mailing bills Wednesday. Payments are due Jan. 31.

Click here and click on "pay real estate tax" to pay or see bills.

The required tax bill number can be found at www.nolaassessor.com or by calling (504) 658-1712. For business personal property tax numbers, call (504) 658-1350.
