NOPD investigates city's first murder of 2013

New Orleans, La.  - New Orleans homicide detectives are investigating the city's first murder of 2013. 

Shortly after 9:10 Tuesday morning, police were called to a house in the the 2300 block of Dreux Avenue, near the corner of Spain Street.  Inside the home, officers found the body of a 28-year-old man.

"The man was shot several times and died on the scene," reads a press release from NOPD. 

His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family, and police are looking into what led to the shooting.

Earlier Tuesday morning, police were called to investigate the city's first shooting of the year.  It happened just after 2:00 a.m. in the 300 block of Canal Street.  Police say a man was shot in the back side.  His wounds are not considered life-threatening.
