FOX 8 News received this press release from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon:

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported detectives arrested a Cut Off man who stole several items from two locations in the South Lafourche area early Tuesday morning. Shaun Rutherford (W/M, D.O.B. 01/10/87) of 2xx Highway 3161 was arrested Tuesday, January 1 following an investigation.

On Tuesday morning, deputies were dispatched to Golden Meadow in reference to a boat which had been allegedly stolen along with several items in the boat. Two men had discovered the boat was missing from its dock on the west bank of Bayou Lafourche and spotted it floating in the area. The men retrieved the boat, but several items were missing from the boat, including a digital camera. Cables leading to the outboard motor had also been partially severed. Deputies then contacted Port Fourchon Harbor Police for assistance in the matter.

Through investigation and working with Harbor Police, deputies discovered several of the missing items aboard a boat docked on the east bank of Bayou Lafourche near East 179th Street. Several other items of value were also located on the boat. Deputies learned the boat belonged to Shaun Rutherford and made contact with him.

Through questioning, detectives learned Rutherford had cut the boat free from the dock in Golden Meadow and stolen the items reported missing from the boat. He also admitted to taking items from another location which he did not disclose. The stolen property and damage to the boat is estimated at approximately $3,900.

Rutherford was arrested for two counts of felony theft and one count of simple criminal damage to property. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and was subsequently released Tuesday night after posting $12,000 bond as had been set by Judge F. Hugh Larose.

Detectives indicate the investigation into this case is continuing. Anyone with any information on this case is asked to contact Detective Aaron Manuel at (985) 532-4320.
