Airport officials give cabbies more time on reforms

File File

FOX 8 News received this press release from the City of Kenner Thursday afternoon:

On December 20, 2012, at a meeting of the New Orleans Aviation Board, it was announced that taxi cab drivers who pick up fares at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport would have additional time to make improvements to their cabs. Taxicabs should continue to aggressively pursue installing the necessary equipment to come into compliance....

For questions, please contact City of Kenner Code Enforcement Director, Tamithia Shaw, at (504) 468-6606.

Officials in New Orleans are expected to enforce the new regulations within the city, though.  They want all cabbies to have the necessary improvements, including security cameras, GPS and credit card machines, by the weekend of the Feb. 3 Super Bowl.
