Gretna, La. - The Gretna Police Department has arrested a 65 year-old man for allegedly stalking young kids while at a BMX bike track located on Gretna Blvd.
Gretna police say in December, the department received a complaint of repeated and unwanted attention being given to the kids at the track by an individual known as "Uncle Don."
The police department began an investigation and were able to identify "Uncle Don" as Don Fernandez of New Orleans. Through the use of surveillance video, detectives found that Fernandez was video taping and taking pictures of the children. He would also ask them where they lived and how often they visited the BMX track.
Detectives say Fernandez had been visiting similar bike tracks around the state.
Upon a search of his home on January 2nd, officers located numerous pictures of the children along with a DVD player containing video of them that had been set up in the bathroom of the home.
He was arrested and was transported to the Orleans Parish Correctional Center and booked with stalking.
Fernandez was also arrested in 1997 by the Harrison County Sheriff's Office on four counts of Unlawful Touching of a Child.
