NOFD battles four-alarm fire at Intercontinental Hotel

New Orleans, La - The New Orleans Fire Department battled a four-alarm fire at the Intercontinental Hotel located at 444 St. Charles Avenue. Fire crews received the first call at 6:20 p.m. Saturday. The fourth alarm was struck at 7:20 p.m. and the fire was under control at 7:33 p.m.

Fire officials say that the fire started in the fourth floor laundry room and that the sprinkler system contained the fire until firefighters were able to completely put it out. The third and fourth floors of the hotel sustained significant water damage.

Guests staying at the hotel evacuated to the street. They are temporarily sheltered in the second floor lobby of the Hilton Hotel located across the street.  

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
