New Orleans, La - As the holiday season winds down, Carnival Season starts cranking up in New Orleans. The Phunny Phorty Phellows kicked it all off in grand style. They gathered at the Willow Streetcar Barn to board the streetcar for the annual ride.
"Clearly we are not all fellows and we are the 'Heralds of Carnival.' We are kicking off Carnival," said a masked krewe member.
There was lots of music and elaborate costumes. "It is officially okay to eat King Cake!" said a krewe member.
There was another celebration Sunday night in the French Quarter on Twelfth Night. "This is the Krewe of Joan of Arc," exclaimed a costumed messenger. "So we're celebrating it not only as Joan of Arc's birthday who is an amazing Saint for New Orleans because she is so inspirational, but it's also 12th night and the beginning of the Carnival Season."
