Chalmette, La -- The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Department is investigating a stabbing that left a 68-year-old Chalmette man dead. The man was found stabbed to death Sunday around noon in his apartment, located in the 3300 block of Laplace Drive in Chalmette. The victim has been identified as Joseph Spurlock.
Police say that Spurlock, who worked as a security guard at Bayou State Security in New Orleans was found by a co-worker who hasn't heard from Spurlock since Friday. Spurlock had several stab wounds to the upper body. St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann says that Spurlock was likely killed sometime early Friday after neighbors heard a woman's voice coming from Spurlock's apartment.
After further investigation, sheriff's deputies arrested 43-year-old Shari Head and 39-year-old Chris Getting. Head, a known friend of the victim, was living with Geeting in a Chalmette trailer park. Head and Geeting were both booked with first-degree murder charges in the St. Bernard Parish Prison.
Pohlmann praised his deputies for their work during this case. "Fast work in checking out leads led to a quick arrest in this murder case," Sheriff Pohlmann said.
