Marrero, La. - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office quickly arrested a man, after he allegedly raped an 83-year-old grandmother in her Marrero home. The incident reportedly happened when the woman walked in on a burglary at her home Sunday evening shortly before 5 PM on Avenue L.
51-year-old Kenneth Adams was captured outside the woman's home shortly after the incident. He reportedly had several pieces of the woman's jewelry as well as a crack pipe on his possession.
Fortunato said that the elderly woman picked Adams out of a photographic lineup and Adams admitted to burglarizing her home. However, he denied the rape. Adams lived in the same block on Avenue L where the woman lived. Fortunato says he has an extensive prior criminal history, including arrests for narcotics possession and theft.
Fortunato says Adams broke into the woman's home by breaking a rear window. When the woman showed up at home, he allegedly forced her into a bedroom where he sexually assaulted her. Fortunato says Adams quickly left after the woman told him that police were on the way. He was captured after a brief chase and scuffle with officers who had arrived on the scene.
