FOX 8 News received this press release from NOPD Tuesday evening:

Members of the New Orleans Police Department's Violent Offenders Warrant Squad (VOWS) and U.S. Marshals arrested the man believed to have gunned down a mother in front of her children last month, and then opened fire on three others.

VOWS and the Marshals picked up 38-year-old Larry Haynes at a former girlfriend's house in Kentwood at about 5 this morning. He is in a Tangipahoa Parish jail tonight, and will be transferred to Orleans Parish Prison tomorrow.

On December 1st , Haynes shot and killed 26-year-old Tiara Reynolds while her kids looked on in the family's driveway in the 2800-block of South Roman Street.

The lead investigator in the case, Detective Elizabeth Garcia, identified the shooter as Haynes. She subsequently received a CrimeStoppers tip which led her to direct VOWS to search for Haynes in Kentwood.

Haynes is charged with one count of First Degree Murder and three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

Larry Haynes was previously arrested for First Degree Murder during a Crime, Crack and Marijuana Possession, Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor, Firearm during a Crime, Extortion, Domestic Violence, Battery on a Police Officer, Flight from a Police Officer,Trespassing and Unauthorized Use of a Moveable.

"This was an excellent job done by Detective Garcia, who was able to work with residents to identify this suspect just days after the shooting. That enabled us to release his photo for all to see, and we knew it was only a matter of time before someone gave him up", said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.

"I also want to commend members of the VOWS unit and the US Marshals for their swift action in locating and taking this violent suspect into custody. His crime was heinous. Looking at his lengthy record, it's obvious that our officers have arrested this man time and time again- including on an illegal firearm charge. He had no business walking the streets last month, and should never have had the opportunity to kill this mother in front of her children."
