Gretna man arrested for killing girlfriend

Belle Chasse, La. - Plaquemines Parish sheriff's deputies investigate the parish's first murder of the year.

Deputies say they arrested 54-year-old John Rivers Sr. after he admitted to stabbing and killing his girlfriend Tuesday.

It happened on deserted Buccaneer Road in Belle Chasse.

Deputies say Rivers told them where to find the body and he later turned himself in.

Rivers is currently being held at Belle Chasse lock-up on second degree murder charges.

Both he and his girlfriend lived together in Gretna.
