FOX 8 News received this press release from Lafourche Parish government Wednesday afternoon:
Last night Lafourche Parish experienced over 5" of rain in a 12 hour period. While there was a considerable amount of rain the Parish experienced few road closures. The north end of the parish is experiencing standing water in some neighborhoods from this morning's downfall. The Parish is preparing for the next wave of storms that are predicted to pass through this area.
The Parish is asking the public:
• Be cautious driving on roads with standing water
• Drive slowly on residential streets, do not make wakes that can push water into homes
• Do not drive around barricades
• Call and report flooding at 985-537-7603
Barricades have been placed on the following roads in Thibodaux:
• Allamand Lane
• Brandywine
• Parkside Dr
• Louisa
• Summerfield Rd.
• East Winder
• Emerald Park
Lafourche Public Works continues to monitors the drainage ditches to make sure they are clear of potential obstructions. Pump stations are running to lower water levels in preparation of more rain that is forecasted for this evening. Residents are urged to pick up or secure loose objects from yards that could be carried by wind or moving water and clog catch basins and culverts. Garbage cans and their covers when empty should be removed from near roadside ditches as these present a serious obstruction to drainage if they become lodged in culverts.
Parish President Charlotte Randolph states, "All Lafourche Parish residents need to be aware of road conditions and follow all barricades and public warnings. We as a community have experienced difficult weather situations in the past and we ask that all be cautious and considerate of their neighbors."
