Orleans property owners encouraged to pay taxes online

New Orleans, La. - The City of New Orleans urges residents to avoid heading downtown to pay their property tax bills because of Super Bowl road closures.

"Now is the time to utilize the faster and easier methods of payment the City offers," said Chief Financial Officer Norman Foster. "Street closures have already begun around the Central Business District, and the closer we get to the property tax deadline, the harder it will be to get down to City Hall and pay in person."

Citizens can view and pay their property tax bills online. Click here to be taken to the website.

The City says residents will need their tax bill number. If you decide to pay using your checking account, there will be no fee added. However, those who pay with a credit card or debit card will be assessed a 2.49% convenience fee.

Citizens can also mail their payments to P.O. Box 60047, New Orleans, LA 70160-0047. Mailed payments must be postmarked by January 31, 2013.

If you have any more questions about property tax payments, call the Bureau of the Treasury at 1-888-387-8027.
