Houma, La. - Quvenzhané Wallis will have a lot of work to make up when she returns to school next week.  The 4th grader missed a social studies test Thursday while she was in Los Angeles for the Academy Award nominations.

Wallis, 9, became the youngest female ever nominated in the Best Actress Category for her portrayal of "Hushpuppy" in the movie "Beasts of the Southern Wild."  The movie was mostly shot in Terrebonne Parish and received critical acclaim at awards shows around the world.

Wallis is an outgoing, friendly student at her school and teachers say she's much like her spirited character in the film.  But on campus, she's just a 4th grader trying to do well in her classes.

Wallis is expected back in class next week when she will have to make up the missed social studies test.  Her teachers say she's missed quite a few days of school this year because of her blossoming acting career but Wallis is always good about making up the work.

Principal Melanie Wallis, who's also Quvenzhané's cousin, says they are planning something special at the school to honor their Oscar nominee.
