City to close Decatur St. during Super Bowl filming, broadcasts

FOX 8 News received this press release from the City of New Orleans Thursday afternoon:

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, the City announced upcoming Decatur Street closures as the City begins hosting activities for Super Bowl XLVII. Starting Monday, January 14, 2013, motorists and pedestrians will see intermittent closures along Decatur Street due to filming and broadcast activities downtown and in the French Quarter, historic Jackson Square, Washington Artillery Park and Woldenberg Park. The closures will also force the temporarily relocation of horse carriages on specific dates.

Decatur Street from Wilkinson Row to Madison will be closed from 12 a.m.-4 a.m. on the following days:

• January 15, 2013

• January 16, 2013

• January 17, 2013

• February 5, 2013

• February 6, 2013

The Ground Transportation Bureau has worked with horse carriages to relocate them from in front of Jackson Square to other staging areas on the following days:

• January 14-16, 2013

• January 21-22, 2013

• February 4-5, 2013

Nearly 20 CBS television shows are scheduled to be filmed in Jackson Square and Washington Artillery Park.

The Decatur Street closures are in addition to the Super Bowl road closures announced in December 2012. The traffic plan, including the initial maps for each date and time period, is available online at The plan details initial road closures and suggested routes for commuters and tourists traveling in and out of the downtown, riverside and French Quarter areas of the city during the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl and on game day.
