Kentwood Police Chief charged with malfeasance in office

Kentwood, La. - Kentwood Police Chief Greg Newton turned himself in to police Wednesday.

Louisiana State Police say Newton surrendered around 11am.

State police had been conducting an investigation into missing evidence; money that had been recovered from a burglary.

A complaint was filed that about $2,000 of the money had gone missing.

State Police allege Newton is responsible for taking the money.

He's being charged with one count of malfeasance in office and obstruction of justice through tampering with evidence.
