Amite, La.- Tangipahoa Parish deputies investigate a case of severely neglected horses in Amite.

Deputies booked Joseph Morris on five animal cruelty charges after finding five neglected horses on his property on Strahan Road. The deputies say the horses were in a muddy pasture with no access to hay or feed. The Tangipahoa Humane Society assessed the horses and said one horse will not survive.

Investigators say Morris admitted he knew the horse was ill and malnourished but he never sought veterinary care. The say Morris commented to investigators, "All this over a horse!"

The horses were immediately removed from the property.

Morris is booked with 1 count of aggravated cruelty to animals and 4 counts of simple cruelty to animals.
