Two former counselors charged with malfeasance in office

Updated:

New Orleans, La. -- District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro filed charges Wednesday against two former youth counselors for an incident that occurred in August 2012.

Alonzo Horton and Charles Ferguson each face one count of malfeasance in office.

"The charges relate to the conduct of the defendants in their duties as counselors at the Youth Study Center," reads a statement from the DA's Office.

According to the statement, Horton beat a 16-year-old detainee at the Center. The counselor was arrested after NOPD investigated the case.

The DA's Office determined that Ferguson, who was assigned to secure the area where the juveniles were detained, lied to authorities during the investigation. Police are still looking for Ferguson.

An arraignment date will be set after the case is allotted to a section of court.
