Baton Rouge, La. - Drivers will be able to use cash and charge machines to pay tolls for the La. 1. Bridge in Leeville, beginning Saturday afternoon.
A vehicle crashed into the original machine in August of 2012, two months after it began operation, leaving workers to collect tolls in person.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said it will activate the replacement machine and its backup at 12 p.m. The new devices have special barriers to help protect them from any possible crashes.
The DOTD also reminds regular commuters about the GeauxPass option, which allows them to use a special toll tag lane. The GeauxPass can also be used to pay tolls on the Crescent City Connection Bridge.
