New Orleans, La - Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L, are investigating an auto accident that left a Covington woman dead. The accident occurred Saturday, just before 4:00 p.m. on Interstate 12 about 1.5 miles east of Hwy 1088. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Kristan Fauntleroy.
Police say that Fauntleroy was driving a pickup east on Interstate 12 when the truck drifted to the left and into the median. Fauntleroy overcorrected to the right and the pickup rotated counter-clockwise as it re-entered the eastbound lanes before veering off of the road to the right. The pickup struck a tree on the left side before coming to a rest.
Fauntleroy was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office. Her one-year-old daughter who was also in the pickup, received moderate injuries and was transported, by air, to University Hospital in New Orleans. Both Fauntleroy and her daughter were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Police do not believe that impairment was a factor in the crash. Results of a toxicology examination are pending.
