Mobile, Al. - News broke of Sean Payton's reinstatement early this morning while most of the Saints' coaching staff and front office was out at Senior Bowl practice leaving most of them to revel in the moment.
"Everybody has been waiting for this moment for a long time," defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. "What a great leader, he's meant a great deal to this organization and I'm looking forward to getting in that building and working with him. It's a new beginning. Every year, in this particular profession, starts a new cycle and we're beginning that here at the Senior Bowl and to get this news as we get ready with personnel and evaluating schemes and what-not, it's huge. We all value what Sean brings; his knowledge as a football coach, his personality, and I'm looking forward to it."
"You [reporters] are just hitting me with this news and so, I've got to digest it a little bit," general manager Mickey Loomis said. "Obviously, we've been anticipating his reinstatement and so, the fact that it is early is great and, I just want to get back to business as usual and put 2012 behind us and look forward to 2013."
