Members of the Fox 8 team were honored tonight in New York with one of journalism's top awards.
Columbia University honored Fox 8 News with its Alfred I duPont-Columbia University Award for two Lee Zurik Investigations: "Hiding Behind the Badge" and "Dirty Deeds".
The duPont award is the Pulitzer Prize for broadcasting and it's rare for a station to win for one story, but the national award recognized two of Zurik's series.
"Hiding Behind the Badge" led to federal guilty pleas by former Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Jiff Hingle and businessman Aaron Bennett.
"Dirty Deeds" is a nearly two year investigation into descendants of three former governors, including Huey Long, earning millions of dollars from oil leases secured in the 1930's.
Also honored with Zurik is Donny Pearce, Mikel Schaefer, Greg Phillips, Wes Cook, Thomas Wright and Marcy Planer.
Fox 8 is one of only three local stations in the country to win the duPont.
